Let's talk food. You should continue to purchase water. You'll n-e-v-e-r have too much. You can always get those flavoring packets from makers like Crystal Light, to break up the monotony.
Tortillas are flat so they freeze easier than bread & take up a whole lot less space. Buy one pack per family member, in case you run out of bread. They work great with everything from PB&J to hot dogs.
Continue purchasing canned goods- Spam, soup, etc. Baked beans can even be cooked in a fire (like a cowboy).
Look for recipes that can be frozen for months. Make alot. Some you can use now & freeze the rest for an emergency. Don't ignore the baked goods. They keep morale up during boring or scary times. Dole makes frozen fruit cups. Make a note on the calendar of when you froze things & how long they're good for.
Make a detailed list of everything you have on hand now. When you go shopping, add a thing or two. It may save the day. Remember the old story about the ant & the grasshopper? Be the Ant.
If you haven't already used coupons to stock your medicine cabinet, then now is a good time to get started. Our Wal-Mart has a bin full of their brand of medicines. Hide your med stockpile from prying hands!
